BATON ROUGE – The third-ranked LSU gymnastics team was named the No. 2 seed for the Southeastern Conference Championship, the league office announced Monday.
Seeding is determined by regional qualifying score (RQS), and LSU (13-1, 7-0 SEC) is one spot behind Florida in the national rankings.
The Tigers are No. 3 in the GymInfo rankings released Monday with a 197.630 RQS, and the Gators are No. 2 nationally with a 197.750 RQS.
In the SEC Championship, LSU will square off against No. 1 seed Florida, No. 3 Alabama and No. 4 Auburn in session two that begins at 5 p.m. CT Saturday inside the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga.
Because LSU is the No. 2 seed, the Tigers will start the meet on uneven bars and rotate to balance beam, floor exercise and finish on vault.
Florida will start on vault, Alabama will begin on beam and Auburn will open on floor.
No. 5 seed Georgia, No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Kentucky and No. 8 Missouri will compete in session one at 1 p.m.
The team with the highest score, regardless of session, will be crowned SEC champion at the conclusion of session two.
LSU enters the championship ranked No. 1 nationally on floor with a 49.530 RQS, No. 3 on vault at 49.515, No. 3 on beam at 49.355 and No. 5 on bars at 49.365.
Jessie Jordan, Rheagan Courville and Ashleigh Gnat continue to rank among the nation’s Top 25 in the all-around. Jordan is No. 4 with a 39.545 RQS, while Courville is No. 8 at 39.495 and Gnat is No. 19 at 39.375.
Courville ranks third nationally on bars with a 9.935 RQS, and she is seventh on vault at 9.930.
Jordan is No. 3 on beam at 9.920, and she is also 11th on floor at 9.920.
Gnat ranks ninth on floor with a 9.925 RQS, and she is 15th on beam at 9.895.
Lloimincia Hall is No. 1 on floor for the fourth straight week with a 9.965 RQS after she posted her second straight perfect 10.0 in the event last week at Centenary. Hall is the only gymnast in the nation with two 10s on floor this season, and she is up to seven in her career.
Myia Hambrick ranks 21st on vault with a 9.90 RQS heading into the SEC Championship.
