BATON ROUGE, La. — The No. 45 LSU women’s tennis team return home for its SEC home opener against No. 2 Florida at 4 p.m. Friday at ‘Dub’ Robinson Stadium.
“We are going to play some of the best teams every single weekend and Florida is no different tomorrow,” head coach Julia Sell said. “I think we’ve done better from UNC to Georgia. I’ve liked how we have improved in every match. We just have to carry everything from practice and implement them in our matches.”
The Gators come to Baton Rouge with six players ranked, including five in the top-40. All three of Florida’s doubles courts are also ranked, with two in the top-20.
The Lady Tigers return home after splitting the opening weekend of SEC Play. LSU fell to No. 3 Georgia, 6-1, Friday. Sophomore Skylar Holloway notched her first SEC win on court six over Caroline Brinson. Holloway is 9-3 on the year and on a four-match winning streak.
LSU came back on Sunday to defeat Tennessee, 5-2, in Knoxville. After dropping the first point, the Lady Tigers fired back for the next three points to take a 3-1 lead. LSU only dropped one singles court and Joana Vale Costa clinched the match on court one.
Skylar Kuykendall leads the Lady Tigers with an 11-2 record. Kuykendall is 8-2 in her last 10 matches and 10-1 on courts two and three this year.
Ella Taylor has also provided solid performances on courts four and five this season with an overall record of 10-3.
