Men’s Golf Honored for Highest GPA at Academic Gala

BATON ROUGE – For the second time in three seasons, the LSU Men’s Golf program was honored during the annual Tiger Athletic Foundation Academic Excellence Gala as having the highest team grade-point average among all men’s sports teams at LSU as part of this year’s event held Monday night at the Stadium South Club inside Tiger Stadium.

The Tiger golfers posted a combined 3.22 team GPA during the 2013-14 academic season after also receiving the team award with a 3.09 team GPA as part of TAF’s annual gala in the spring of 2013.

The 2013-14 campaign proved to be a banner season both on and off the course for the Tigers as they also made a historic run to the Final Four of match play at the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship while officially tying for third place nationally for their highest NCAA finish since 1967. They also earned their best SEC Championship finish since 1989 with a second-place team finish last spring.

In addition, eight Tigers were honored during Monday’s academic gala as both recipients of the LSU Student-Athlete Directors Cup and members of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, including the team’s All-America trio of Stewart Jolly, Ben Taylor and Curtis Thompson, as well as Smylie Kaufman, Myles Lewis, Landon Lyons, Brandon Pierce and Zach Wright.
