BATON ROUGE – For the first time this season and the fourth time in her career, LSU senior Rheagan Courville has been named SEC Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Courville posted the highest all-around score in the nation with a 39.625 to lead LSU to a season-high 197.350 and victory over Missouri on Jan. 23.
The Baton Rouge native also won the vault and bars titles with 9.95s in each event. She added a 9.875 to place third on beam, and she scored a 9.85 on floor to help LSU tally a 49.500 that ranks as the second-highest floor total in the nation this season.
The all-around title is the 22nd of her career, lifting Courville to a tie with Ashleigh Clare-Kearney for second place in LSU career all-around titles.
Her vault title against Missouri is the 24th of her career, moving her into sole possession of third place for most vault titles in program history.
The honor marks the third straight week in which a Tiger has claimed SEC Gymnast of the Week. Fellow senior Jessie Jordan earned back-to-back gymnast of the week honors after the first two meets of the season.
LSU (4-0, 2-0 SEC) is back in action this week at the Metroplex Challenge against a loaded field that includes No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 8 Arkansas and Iowa State. The meet is slated to begin at 7 p.m. CT Saturday in the Fort Worth (Texas) Convention Center.
Tickets are available at the convention center arena box office the day of the meet at a cost of $25 per ticket.
