Volleyball Returns for First Week of Workouts

BATON ROUGE, La. – With the spring semester in full swing back on campus, the LSU volleyball team has also returned to work, as the team is currently completing its first week of spring workouts after finishing the season in mid-December.

Coming off its first 20-win season since 2010 and the sixth since the ’05 campaign, the team is going through a host of individual and select drills, honing the skills that helped the squad finish third in the Southeastern Conference with a 14-4 league mark.

“It’s always great to get back on the court, and I’ve been very impressed with the energy the team has shown through the first week of practice,” head coach Fran Flory said.

The bulk of the team, 13 players altogether, are expected to return for the 2015 season which begins in earnest in August, including All-SEC performer Cati Leak and SEC All-Freshman pick Gina Tillis. Also included in the mix will be the return of Khourtni Fears who missed all of last season after sustaining a knee injury, and the addition of newcomer Tiara Gibson who transferred to LSU over the break from South Dakota State.

“With what we have coming back for next year, especially with working Khourtni back into the group, you can’t help but feel excited about what we can accomplish together going forward,” Flory said. “The addition of Tiara has given us some added depth, and she has done a great job of incorporating into our system.”

The team will continue individual workouts for the duration of January, before forging into February and March with six weeks of group practice, weight lifting and conditioning.
