BATON ROUGE – Through two meets this season LSU senior gymnast Jessie Jordan has shined, and for the second-straight week she has been named Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
A native of Houston, Texas, Jordan shared the gymnast of the week honor with Arkansas’ Amanda Wellick. Florida’s Alex McMurtry was named SEC Specialist of the Week, and the Gators’ Kennedy Baker earned SEC Freshman of the Week.
In a tri-meet at Kentucky with Arizona State, Jordan captured her second-consecutive all-around title. Her 39.525 all-around total led all SEC gymnasts last week.
Jordan also won a share of the vault and beam titles in the meet, giving her six individual titles through two meets, and she tied her career-high again on floor with a 9.925.
Jordan is the only gymnast in the SEC to tally multiple 9.9 scores on floor this season, and she is one of only two gymnasts in the league to earn multiple 9.9 scores on beam this year.
Jordan ranks first nationally on floor, No. 2 on beam, No. 3 in the all-around and No. 11 on bars to help lead LSU to a 3-0 record.
This marks her third SEC Gymnast of the Week honor. She won the award last season after a stellar performance against Missouri, and she won last week after recording the nation’s highest all-around total of the week with a 39.550.
No. 3 LSU is back in action at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday when the Tigers play host to Missouri inside the Maravich Center. Team introductions and opening ceremony begins at 7:15 p.m., so fans are encouraged to arrive early.
