BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After leading the LSU women’s basketball team to a pair of victories over Top 15 opponents, Danielle Ballard has secured SEC and ESPNW Player of the Week accolades as announced Monday.
For Ballard, it was her sixth career SEC weekly award which gives her the top spot among active players. She amassed 24.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game.
LSU (10-8, 4-2 SEC) moved into a five-way tie for fourth place in the SEC standings. The Lady Tigers have collected 15 victories over ranked opponents during the Nikki Caldwell era and earned consecutive wins over SEC ranked opponents for the first since the 2007-08 season.
Ballard registered her first double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds at No. 15 Mississippi State. She knocked down the game-tying three-pointer with 0.8 seconds left to force double overtime. Then, Ballard put LSU ahead for good with a jumper inside the final minute of the second overtime period.
Ballard racked up a career-high tying 25 points against No. 10 Kentucky coupled with five assists and five steals, both season-highs. She has secured eight of her top 10 scoring performances against ranked opponents.
