Jordan Named SEC Gymnast of the Week

BATON ROUGE – LSU senior Jessie Jordan earned Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.

Jordan posted the highest all-around total not only in the SEC but also in the nation with a 39.550 in the season opener against Iowa.

The Houston, Texas native tied her career highs on bars, beam and floor with a 9.925 on each event on the way to claiming the beam, floor and all-around titles against the Hawkeyes.

She is the only gymnast in the nation so far to score a 9.90 or better in three events in one meet.

For her efforts, Jordan checked in at No. 1 in the national all-around standings, becoming the fifth LSU gymnast to ascend to the top spot in the all-around rankings since 2000. She joined April Burkholder (2006), Ashleigh Clare-Kearney (2008), Susan Jackson (2010) and fellow senior Rheagan Courville (2014).

Jordan played an integral part in LSU posting a 197.125 team score that ranked as the second-best score in the nation and elevated the Tigers to No. 2 in this week’s GymInfo national standings.

This marks the second time in her career Jordan has earned SEC Gymnast of the Week. She also received the honor last season for her stellar performance against Missouri.

No. 2 LSU will begin SEC competition Friday when the Tigers travel to face Kentucky and Arizona State in Lexington, Ky. The meet is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, and live audio will be available on www.LSUsports.net/live.
