BATON ROUGE – After posting the second-highest score of any team this season, the LSU gymnastics team moved up one spot to No. 2 in the latest GymInfo national standings released Monday.
Senior Jessie Jordan is ranked No. 1 in the national all-around standings after scoring a 39.550 all-around total in the opener against Iowa. Jordan’s score led the nation by three-quarters of a tenth ahead of Kytra Hunter of Florida’s 39.475.
Senior Rheagan Courville is tied for third nationally with a 39.450 in the all-around.
Jordan is the fifth LSU gymnast since 2006 to earn the top spot in the all-around standings, joining April Burkholder (2006), Ashleigh Clare-Kearney (2008), Susan Jackson (2010) and Rheagan Courville (2014).
LSU (1-0) was one of only two teams across the nation to score a 197 over the weekend along with Oklahoma, which scored a 197.625 to earn the No. 1 ranking this week.
In the event standings LSU is No. 1 on bars after garnering the highest event score in the nation with a 49.600. The Tigers are No. 2 on beam with a 49.325, No. 6 on vault with a 49.225 and tied for seventh on floor with a 48.975.
All six of LSU’s competitors on bars in the opener are ranked in the event. Courville is No. 1, followed by Jordan and Randii Wyrick at No. 4, Shae Zamardi at No. 8, Jessica Savona at No. 10 and Myia Hambrick at No. 23.
Courville is No. 10 on vault, while Lloimincia Hall is No. 15 and Hambrick is No. 24.
On beam Jordan is No. 2, Erin Macadaeg is No. 5 and Courville is tied for 18th.
Jordan is tied for second nationally on floor, and Savona ranks sixth.
Second-ranked LSU will open up Southeastern Conference competition Friday when the Tigers travel to Lexington, Ky., to take on Kentucky along with No. 20 Arizona State.
