BATON ROUGE – LSU record-setting freshman running back Leonard Fournette earned a spot on the Associated Press All-Bowl Team, the organization announced on Thursday.
Fournette rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns and added a 100-yard kickoff return for a TD in LSU’s 31-28 last-second loss to Notre Dame in the Music City Bowl in Nashville.
Fournette set two LSU bowl records against Notre Dame. His 89-yard TD run in the third quarter was the longest in LSU bowl history. In the first half, Fournette returned a kickoff 100 yards for a TD, which is the longest kickoff return for LSU in its bowl history.
Fournette finished with 264 all-purpose yards.
For the year, Fournette rushed for 1,034 yards and 10 touchdowns on 187 carries. His 1,034 rushing yards are the most in LSU history by a freshman, breaking the previous mark of 1,001 set by Justin Vincent in 2003.
Fournette also tied the school-record for most 100-yard rushing games by a freshman with five, while his 10 rushing touchdowns is the third-highest total for a freshman in LSU history. Vincent had five 100-yard rushing games in 2003, while Jeremy Hill with 12 and Dalton Hilliard with 11 are the only true freshmen to score more rushing TDs than Fournette.
