BATON ROUGE – LSU football will be making its presence felt in Nashville for the next two weeks as six digital billboards will be located throughout the city in preparation for the Tigers first trip to the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.
LSU will renew its rivalry with Notre Dame in the Music City Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. at LP Field. The game will be televised by ESPN.
It will be LSU’s first football game in Nashville since 2010 when the Tigers beat Vanderbilt, 27-3. LSU has never played at LP Field, which is home to the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.
Four billboards are currently on display in Nashville and will run until Jan. 4. The remaining two billboards will be live on Dec. 29 and will run for a week. The four billboards that are currently on display can be found at I-40 at Spence Lane, I-40 & I-65, I-24 at I-40 and I-65 at Rivergate Parkway.
Two additional LSU billboards will come on line on Dec. 29 and will run through Jan. 4. Those billboards can be found at I-24 near the Cumberland River and Hwy 109 just north of I-40.
Designed by Krystal Bennett-Faircloth in the LSU Sports Information Department, the billboard plays on Nashville’s nickname “Music City” and features a guitar, along with head coach Les Miles leading the Tigers onto the field prior to a home game with the slogan “We Came To Play”.
The LSU athletic billboard will complement the campaign done by University Relations, which features signage in the Nashville Airport, billboards, hotel roof lighting at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, an in-room TV welcome at the team hotel, a front page newspaper wrap on The Tennessean the day before the game as well as a social media push.
“This is a joint campaign between athletics and academics to let Nashville know that LSU is coming and we are excited about being here for this great bowl game,” LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette said. “The LSU brand is so strong and recognized globally. Nashville is one of the great cities not only in the South but in our country and to have our brand and image spread across this city for two weeks is tremendous exposure for LSU, both athletically and academically.”
