Notes on the Tigers
LSU split its games on its California road trip heading into the holiday break, and the Lady Tigers have posted a 5-5 record through 10 games. Following a 15-point loss at Long Beach State, LSU implemented a new platoon system and divided its 10 available players into Purple and Gold units en route to a 78-45 victory over UC Santa Barbara. The 78 points and 54.5 shooting percentage were season-highs for the Lady Tigers. DaShawn Harden has secured a team-leading 10.9 points per game and dialed up 16 of her 42 field goals coming from three-point territory. She has reached double figures in six straight games which include a 13-point effort on 6-of-9 from the floor at UCSB. Raigyne Moncrief has notched 10.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. She is the only player to start in all 10 games for the Lady Tigers. The Florida native tallied 10 points and seven rebounds during the UCSB game. Akilah Bethel has added 8.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. She nearly collected her first career double-double with nine points and a career-high nine rebounds at Long Beach State. Sheila Boykin has emerged with 7.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. She has ripped off 10-plus point in three consecutive outings and four of her last five appearances. During the five-game stretch, Boykin has produced a pair of double-doubles in addition to upping her marks to 10.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Anne Pedersen has put together a balanced 6.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. She has registered double figures on three occasions, most recently a 10-point effort against Southeastern Louisiana on Dec. 14. LSU received sparks from Stephanie Amichia and Jenna Deemer who made their first career starts during the UCSB game. Deemer piled up 13 points aided by a trio of three-pointers. The 13 points was her second-highest career output. Amichia worked her way to six points and five rebounds. Ann Jones has averaged 4.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Jones amassed eight points at UCSB, her highest scoring effort since the Jackson State game on Nov. 17. Rina Hill has garnered 4.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game over her last four outings. She returned to the starting lineup during the UCSB game. Jasmine Rhodes equaled career-highs with four steals and three assists at UCSB. Up next, LSU travels to the Miami Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28-29. The four-team event features UNC Greensboro, Florida A&M and host Miami. The Lady Tigers begin the SEC portion of their schedule at Florida on Jan. 2.
