BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU junior outside hitter Katie Lindelow was named to the Southeastern Conference Volleyball Community service team the league announced today, as the Mandeville native was one of 12 student-athletes from the league to make the list.
The Mandeville, Louisiana, native is the 12th consecutive selection for an LSU Tiger to the list, following Madi Mahaffey who was selected last season. The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
“Katie is a great leader for our program in every capacity,” head coach Fran Flory said. “She has invested in all aspects, and she is certainly a great representative of what our program stands for. She is very deserving of this award.”
Since the start of the new academic and athletic year, Lindelow has earned close to 50 hours of community service work with various programs through the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student Athletes and the Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Program.
The bulk of her community service work has come through her involvement with the Big Buddy Program, which pairs up LSU student-athletes with kids from local schools, as the groups interact with each other both away and on campus. Lindelow has spent over 40 hours assisting with the program, taking part in events both at LSU and in and around Baton Rouge.
At the start of the semester, she helped with move-in day initiative that helps move in new freshmen to their dorms on campus, while also participating in the Be The Match program that helps find bone marrow donors. Recently, Lindelow has helped with the volleyball team’s free kid’s clinic and the athletic department’s annual Halloween BOO-zar that welcomed over 700 kids and their parents to the PMAC that provided a safe environment for trick-or-treating.
