Women’s Hoops Gears Up for Tulane

BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s basketball team will look to build on its two-game winning streak when the Lady Tigers take on Tulane Wednesday at the Maravich Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:02 p.m., and the game will be carried online only by SEC Network Plus via http://www.watchespn.com/ and the Watch ESPN app. Lyn Rollins and Victor Howell will call the action.

The LSU Sports Radio Network will broadcast the game on its flagship station Talk 107.3 FM in Baton Rouge.  The broadcast featuring Patrick Wright, the voice of the Lady Tigers, also will be available for Geaux Zone subscribers at www.LSUsports.net/live.

Tickets for Wednesday’s game are on-sale at www.LSUtix.net and can be purchased at the Maravich Center Box Office starting as low as $2 for general admission tickets on gameday. The Maravich Center Box Office opens at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Green Wave (2-0) has collected victories over Mississippi Valley State (87-47) and McNeese State (75-55) to open their season. Tulane is being led by Kolby Morgan’s 14.0 points per game off the bench followed by Danielle Blagg’s 12.0 points and Tierra Jones’ 11.5 points per game.

“Tulane is a very complete basketball team when you look at their starters, and the punch they have coming off the bench,” head coach Nikki Caldwell said. “They are a collective group that has played together so they are very familiar with each other. They are also a team that, defensively, can really disrupt you offensively. Ball sureness is going to be a key. I feel as though with the in state rivalry that can play into it as well, but it is another basketball game. We’ve got to treat it as thought this game on Wednesday is the toughest and biggest and the most important game on our schedule.” 

The Lady Tigers (2-1) are coming off a 52-44 overtime victory over Jackson State. LSU wiped away a five-point deficit midway through the second half and scored all eight points during the overtime session.

Raigyne Moncrief has posted a team-leading 12.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. She has reached double figures in all three games and totaled all 10 of her points in the second half and overtime of the Jackson State game.

Ann Jones has secured 8.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She has connected on 55.0 percent of her field goal attempts and produced her first career double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds versus Jackson State.

Anne Pedersen has chipped in 6.3 points and 1.3 assists per game followed by Akilah Bethel‘s 5.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. From the point guard position, Rina Hill has tallied 3.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.

Off the bench, Jenna Deemer has come away with 7.7 points, 1.3 steals and 1.0 assists per game. She has knocked down 52.9 percent of her shots and 50.0 percent of her three-point attempts. DaShawn Harden has picked up 5.3 points, 3.0 steals and 1.3 assists per game. She garnered nine points and six steals against Jackson State.

Stephanie Amichia has added 3.7 points and 3.0 rebounds, while Sheila Boykin has amassed 3.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Last time out, Boykin hauled in a season’s best eight rebounds during the Jackson State game.

Jasmine Rhodes has registered 2.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game whereas Alliyah Fareo has grabbed five rebounds and tacked on a blocked shot over her first three collegiate games.
