Notes on the Tigers
LSU is 16-8 on the season and 11-4 in the SEC after splitting a pair of matches on the weekend. LSU defeated Tennessee at home on Friday before falling on the road to Mississippi State. The loss snapped the team’s winning streak at 11 matches, which was tied for the tenth longest in program history. It was the team’s first loss since Oct. 3. The Tigers will close the home portion of the schedule this weekend with Missouri and Auburn. LSU hit just .207 on the week against the Lady Vols and Bulldogs, although they did hold their opponents to a combined .105 hitting percentage in the two matches. LSU averaged just 12.78 kills per set, just over two more than both teams this past weekend, while serving up on average 11.89 assists per set. The Tigers averaged 17.00 digs per set, two more than the opposition, while holding strong with 2.56 blocks per set to 1.33. LSU served into 21 service errors, only earning 10 service aces while both MSU and UT had 13 and just 15 service errors. The loss to Mississippi State snapped a 15-match winning streak against the Bulldogs which dated back to 2005. The defeat snapped a six-match winning streak for the team on the road. The Tigers are now 6-2 in road matches in the SEC. It was just the second loss for LSU in five-set matches on the season. LSU dropped the opening set and lost, falling to 6-7 on the year when losing the opening frame. It was the seventh time this season that the team has dropped a match when tied at 1-1, falling to 2-7 when being behind 2-1 in a match this season. It was only the second loss for the Tigers on a Sunday this season. The Tigers hit just .180 in the match against the Bulldogs, falling to 1-5 when hitting below .200 in a match on the season. MSU’s was the first team to earn more service aces than LSU in a match in the team’s last 11. The 10 aces for Mississippi State are the most the team has given up in a single match this season. The 80 digs for LSU were the most for the team this season, and the first time earning that many in a match since last season.
