BATON ROUGE – Blue chip recruit Jessica Golovin has become the newest addition to the LSU women’s tennis 2015 recruiting class as she officially signed with the Lady Tigers Thursday. Golovin, the highest ranked American recruit ever signed by LSU, is the second blue chip recruit signed by head coach Julia S. Sell during her tenure.
Golovin, a native of New York City, attends the John McEnroe Tennis Academy. During her decorated prep career, Golovin received a recruiting ranking as high as No. 13 nationally. Golovin garnered a 20-15 overall record against some of the country’s best competition, including a 3-1 record against fellow five star recruits and 4-0 record against four star prospects.
“We are very excited to welcome Jessica to the Tiger family. She will be able to come in and have an immediate impact on our team,” Sell said. “Jessica plays a very aggressive style but also has an extremely versatile game. She is a fierce competitor who has strong professional dreams and a championship attitude.”
Golovin considered foregoing collegiate tennis to begin her professional career, but will now aim to improve her game at LSU before moving on to the next level. Toward the end of her prep career, Golovin stopped participating in USTA competition in order to focus on her ITF and WTA ranking which is critical for professionals.
With the signing of Golovin, LSU continues its recruiting excellence and hopes to be a pathway to the pros. The 2013 class was the highest ranked in program history. The 2014 class was very strong as well, earning a special notation by national recruiting services.
