CCACSA Announces Student-Athletes of the Month

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes honored six LSU student-athletes for their academic achievements and community service for November.

Each month, five student-athletes are recognized for their academic improvement, dedication and proven ability. In addition, one student-athlete is chosen through LSU’s Student-Athlete Affairs program for their volunteerism and commitment to the community.

November’s student-athletes of the month are Lily Alfeld [Soccer], Kelly Quinn [Volleyball], Jesse Stallings [Baseball], Stacey Stanfield [Swimming & Diving] and Devin Voorhies [Football]. Jessie Jordan [Gymnastics] was selected as the Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Program Student-Athlete of the Month.

Alfeld and Voorhies are both studying sports administration while Quinn is studying biology. Jordan is a kinesiology major, Stanfield is an English major and Stallings is a natural resource ecology & management major.

Jordan, a senior from Houston, Texas, returns to the gymnastics team as a six-time All-American and two-time All-SEC performer. Last season Jordan ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation for all-around gymnasts. She recently participated in several events at the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired (LSVI) including White Cane Safety Day, Neighborhood Arts Project Halloween and Operation Christmas Child. Jordan also serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a veteran in LSU’s Leadership Academy.

A freshman goalkeeper from Christchurch, New Zealand, Alfeld was one of the world’s top goalkeeper prospects at the youth level while competing internationally for New Zealand. Alfeld was named FIFA’s “Player of the Match” for her performance against Mexico at the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Quinn, a freshmen defensive specialist from The Woodlands, Texas, is enjoying her first season with the Tigers after being a four-year varsity player in high school. The Texas native helped round out an LSU recruiting class that was ranked 13th by PrepVolleyball.com.

A sophomore pitcher from Colfax, Louisiana, Stallings received a medical redshirt for the 2014 season after needing Tommy John surgery to reconstruct his throwing elbow. Stallings was an outstanding prospect who should return to the mound for the 2015 season.

Stanfield, a junior from St. Johns, Florida, is coming off a season which she earned her second varsity letter. In her sophomore season, Stanfield swam career highs in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

A freshman safety from Woodville, Mississippi, Voorhies was rated a unanimous four-star recruit by ESPN.com, Rivals.com, 247Sports.com and Scout.com. The former Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year and Parade All-America First Teamer is looking forward to making his mark on the football program.

For putting forth extra effort in the classroom and community in addition to their rigorous academic and competition schedules, these six student-athletes will have their pictures displayed on the wall in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.
