BATON ROUGE – LSU practiced for the first time since beating third-ranked Ole Miss on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium as the 16th-ranked Tigers went through a light workout here at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
Tuesday’s workout was the first of three for LSU this week as the Tigers will practice again on Wednesday and Thursday. LSU has its first open date of the season on Saturday. The Tigers return to action on Nov. 8 when Alabama comes to Tiger Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest that will be televised on CBS.
LSU is now 7-2 overall and 3-2 in Southeastern Conference play heading into the open date. The Tigers, winners of three straight, is now one victory away from winning their eighth game. LSU currently has the nation’s longest streak of seasons with at least eight wins at 14 straight, a feat that dates back to the 2000 season.
“Today was kind of an extra day off after we took Monday completely off,” LSU coach Les Miles said following the workout. “We worked on special teams and ‘good vs. good’ and ‘LSU vs. LSU.’ There was not really a game plan involved with an opponent. We had some competition that reflects ‘LSU vs. LSU.’ It was a nice practice.”
Miles said this week’s open date, the first of two for the Tigers over the next four weeks, comes at a good time.
“We had nine straight games and we have some bumps and bruises,” Miles said. “A couple of days of no practice really make a difference this time of year. We get back to the season with two open dates in the next three games so we should be pretty fresh.”
Miles closed Tuesday’s media session by sending condolences to the family of Brian Tingley, the LSU fans that passed away late in the fourth quarter of the Tigers’ win over Ole Miss. Tingley, who was a lifelong LSU fan, suffered an apparent heart attack in the seating section of the south endzone.
“What a tragedy to have a man, 59-year-old Brian Tingley, pass away in our stadium,” Miles said. “I hear he was a lifelong LSU fan. We send our thoughts and prayers to his family and we hope that LSU football can help ease some of their pain.”
