BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU offensive lineman Hoko Fanaika picked up Southeastern Conference Community Service Team Player of the Week as announced Tuesday by the league office.

Fanaika, a senior who is on track to graduate this spring with a degree in interdisciplinary studies, has started three games at right guard and collected 15 knockdowns this season. He also is a contributor on special teams for the Tigers.

Fanaika has participated in several community service events in the Baton Rouge area. He took part in the LSU Move-In Day last August to help incoming freshmen move into dorms and feel welcomed to the LSU community.

Fanaika has volunteered with the “Big Buddy Day of the Mentor” and “Touring with the Tigers” programs in which he gave a tour of the campus to a local child and encouraged him to set goals and follow his dreams.

Fanaika has been a part of LSU’s “Thanksgiving with the Tigers” event to help serve Thanksgiving dinner for the less fortunate in the city, and he devoted his spring with a semester-long commitment with Big Buddy in which he mentored local youth.

LSU returns to SEC action Saturday at Florida. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT, and the game will be televised by the SEC Network along with http://www.watchespn.com/.
