BOONE, N.C. – LSU assistant coach Angel Elderkin has accepted the women’s basketball head coach position at Appalachian State University as announced Wednesday by Mountaineers interim director of athletics Rick Beasley.

Elderkin joined LSU’s staff as the program’s director of video operations in 2011-12 and returned as an assistant coach in 2013-14 after a one-year stint at St. John’s. She played a role in post player development, and the Lady Tigers notched 21 wins en route to a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance along with a No. 24 final national ranking last season.

“The LSU women’s basketball family is extremely proud of Angel as she prepares for the next step in her coaching career,” head coach Nikki Caldwell said. “Angel is going to be a great head coach for Appalachian State, and we will definitely miss her at LSU. She possesses the leadership qualities that are necessary to run a successful program. Angel is very dedicated and committed to the overall success of the student-athlete on and off the basketball court. She understands how to motivate people while maintaining a positive relationship with her players. Angel has a love and passion to grow the game and fully understands the importance of giving back to the community.”

LSU has secured three consecutive 20-plus win seasons and three NCAA Tournament appearances highlighted by back-to-back NCAA Sweet 16 trips under Caldwell. The Lady Tigers will host a pair of exhibition games against Loyola at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5 and Mississippi College at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9.

LSU is accepting $20 season ticket deposits online at http://www.LSUtix.net/. The $20 deposit will go toward the purchase of a season ticket or mini-plan for the 2014-15 season.
