PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – LSU sophomore Joana Vale Costa will travel to California to compete in the singles qualifying bracket of the 2014 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships on Tuesday.
Vale Costa will square off against Texas Tech sophomore Lynn Kiro in the first round of the qualifying bracket. The match is set to start at 2:15 p.m. CT.
Vale Costa, ranked 61st nationally, is coming off a strong performance at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational where she posted a 2-1 singles record. Vale Costa also accumulated a host of awards her freshman season, including 2014 All-SEC Second Team, All-SEC Freshman Team, ITA Southern Region Rookie of the Year, and All-Louisiana Second Team.
The qualifying rounds are comprised of a singles draw of 64. Just as with pre-qualifying, a singles player must win three consecutive matches to advance into the main draw. Eight spots in the main draw are reserved for singles qualifiers.
The winner of Tuesday’s match will advance to take on the winner of Miami’s Lina Lileikite and Clemson’s Romy Kolzer at 5:45 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
