CCACSA Announces Student-Athletes of the Month

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes honored six LSU student-athletes for their academic achievements and community service for September.

Each month, five student-athletes are recognized for their academic improvement, dedication and proven ability. In addition, one student-athlete is chosen through LSU’s Student-Athlete Affairs program for their volunteerism and commitment to the community.

September’s student-athletes of the month are Danielle Ballard [Women’s Basketball], Reshaud Henry [Football], Frank Herron [Football], Caley Oquist [Swimming and Diving] and Eric Ricard [Men’s Golf]. Katie Lindelow [Volleyball] was selected as the Shaquille O’Neal Life Skills Program Student-Athlete of the Month.

Lindelow, Oquist and Ricard are sport administration majors while Ballard and Herron are interdisciplinary studies majors. Henry is majoring in fitness studies.

Lindelow, a junior from Mandeville, is looking to build on a strong 2013 campaign in which she lead the team in aces with 31 on the season. Her 0.24 ace per set average was good for 18th in the Southeastern Conference. Lindelow is no stranger to academic success as she was a member of the 2013 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll and the 2013 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. She is currently serving as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and recently mentored children through the Buddy Program. Lindelow also participated in Move-In Day and helped welcome freshmen to campus.

A junior guard from Memphis, Tennessee, Ballard has already earned two letters and a slew of SEC honors in her first two seasons with the Lady Tigers. The coaches most recently recognized Ballard’s hard work when they selected her as a member of the 2014 All-SEC Preseason second team. Ballard’s junior season will most likely include several milestones, as she is just 170 points short of 1,000 and 74 rebounds away from 500 on her career.

Henry, a sophomore running back from Ponchatoula, just finished his redshirt season for the Tigers. This is his first Student-Athlete of the Month award.

A sophomore defensive tackle from Memphis, Tennessee, Herron switched from defensive end during spring practices. Herron is expected to have an impact for the Tigers in 2014 and will likely be a fixture in the defensive line rotation.

Oquist, a junior swimmer from Monticello, Minnesota, flashed her potential at the SEC Championships last season where she set the LSU record in the 100 and 200 backstroke on her way to an NCAA Championship berth. Oquist is also part of the team that holds the LSU record for the 400-medley relay.

A sophomore golfer from Shreveport, Ricard made four tournament appearances in his debut season with the Tigers in his freshman season. Ricard’s performance earned him his first letter and is poised to have an even better season in the 2014 –15 year.

For putting forth extra effort in the classroom and community in addition to their rigorous academic and competition schedules, these six student-athletes will have their pictures displayed on the wall in the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.
