Notes on the Tigers
LSU was handed a three-set sweep by defending national champion and No. 4 Texas over the weekend. With the loss, the Tigers have dropped back-to-back matches for the first time in 2013 and are now 10-3 for the season. LSU had four players provide seven or more kills versus the Longhorns. Briana Holman led the way with eight kills but had her streak of 10 straight matches with double digit kills come to a close. She was limited to a .150 hitting clip, her second lowest output of the season. Seeing her first extended action after an injury limited her playing time over the last three weekends, Desiree Elliott ripped seven kills on a team-leading .353 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs. Helen Boyle and Khourtni Fears each ripped seven kills apiece for the Tigers. Malorie Pardo tacked on 29 assists and 10 digs en route to her sixth straight double-double. On the back line, Haley Smith stretched out for a team-leading 16 digs, her ninth consecutive outing with 10-plus digs. LSU’s front row was limited to a season’s low two blocks as Texas connected for 49 kills and a .347 hitting percentage. The Tigers return to SEC action Wednesday at Texas A&M to begin a stretch of three matches over a five-day span. First serve is slated for 7 p.m., and the match will be televised by ESPNU. LSU plays host to Ole Miss [Friday – 7 p.m.] and Mississippi State [Sunday – 1 p.m.] over the weekend at the Maravich Center.
