After Blitzing Blazers, Football Climbs in Polls

BATON ROUGE — The morning after a record-setting Saturday night in Tiger Stadium, the LSU football team continued its ascent in the national polls.

LSU (2-0) climbed from No. 9 to No. 8 in the AP Top 25 and from 11th to eighth the USA Today Coaches’ Poll.

Quarterback Zach Mettenberger tossed a school-record five touchdown passes, while wide receiver and return specialist Odell Beckham Jr. ran back a missed field goal 100 yards for a touchdown – a first in LSU history. Beckham finished with 331 all-purpose yards and scored four touchdowns.
