Simpson Ranked No. 29 in ITA Preseason Poll

SKILLMAN, N.J. – LSU men’s tennis junior Chris Simpson has been pegged No. 29 in the preseason ITA singles rankings. The Derby, England, native finished last season with a 12-12 singles record and notched a 10-10 record in doubles dual-match play.

Simpson was also selected to participate in the NCAA Singles Championships this past season and was a member of the All-SEC Second Team along with being named the Southern Region Player to Watch by the ITA. Additionally, Simpson was also named Louisiana Co-Player of the Year by the LSWA.

Ranking as high as No. 48 in singles last season, Simpson pulled off nine victories over ranked opponents, including a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Michigan’s Evan King, who was ranked No. 15 at the time. But Simpson’s biggest victory of the season was a match-clinching win against No. 6 Tennessee over then-No. 3 Mikelis Libietis, the 2013 SEC Player of the Year who also starts this season off ranked No. 1 in singles.
