BATON ROUGE — LSU rising sophomore Cassie Weil placed third in the Women’s 10-meter platform final Saturday at the AT&T National Diving Championships conducted at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

Weil placed eighth in the quarterfinal with a score of 284.9 and 11th in the semifinal with a score of 262.40. In the final, Weil scored 333.70 points to place third. Her score and place finish were career highs.

Weil placed 12th at the NCAA championships in March and is poised for a successful sophomore campaign. The two-time NCAA Honorable Mention All-American gained momentum going into the 2013-2014 season with her third place USA National finish.

Two other LSU divers, senior Sean McKinney and junior Alex Bettridge, participated in the USA Diving Nationals. Both divers participated in the 1-meter springboard competition. McKinney posted a score of 293.40 in the men’s quarterfinal to place 20th. Alex Bettridge placed 13th in the women’s quarterfinal with a score of 252.05. In the 3-meter competition Alex placed 20th (228.40) and Sean 24th (327.60).

“Cassie’s performance at the AT&T USA Diving National Championships was huge! I’ve seen her do all of her dives that well in competition, but not all together in one list,” LSU Diving Head Coach Doug Shaffer said. “Today she put it all together. I’m proud of all the Tiger Divers performances at the AT&T USA National Diving Championships.”
