BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The LSU volleyball team learned Wednesday that two of its road matches will be carried on television during the 2013 season as announced by the SEC office.
The Tigers will meet fellow SEC Western Division co-favorite Texas A&M on Oct. 9 as part of ESPNU’s Wednesday Night Volleyball package. LSU has made seven appearances over the last four seasons on the worldwide leader since the SEC on ESPN television agreement reached leading into the 2009 season. The match has been pushed back to a 7 p.m. CT to accommodate the network and also will be carried on www.WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app.
Launched in 2005, ESPNU is a 24-hour college sports television network that airs more than 650 live events annually and offers over 600 original studio shows. The network, now in over 73 million homes, has long-term carriage agreements with all 10 of the top multichannel TV providers – Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, Cox (Channel 243/1243 in HD), DirecTV (Channel 208), DISH Network (Channel 141), Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS TV and AT&T U-verse (Channel 605/1605 in HD).
LSU’s match at Auburn on Oct. 18 will be televised by Fox Sports Network and SportSouth. The FSN/SportSouth regional footprint reaches over 30 million homes. Match time has been moved back to a 7:30 p.m. CT first serve. The Tigers remaining television schedule with Cox Sports Television will be released at a later date.
“Being on television is something our program doesn’t take for granted,” head coach Fran Flory said. “It’s a fabulous opportunity for us to showcase to a national audience what LSU volleyball is all about.
Our matches with Texas A&M and Auburn are always very competitive and hard fought.”
LSU will hold its annual Purple & Gold Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. inside the Maravich Center where fans will have the opportunity to get their first glimpse of the 2013 Tigers. Admission to the scrimmage and the entire 2013 home schedule which features 13 matches beginning with the Tiger Classic on Aug. 30-31 are free compliments of The Advocate’s “Geaux Free” program.
Prior to the Purple & Gold Scrimmage, LSU will hold a free Kids Clinic where the Tigers will instruct basic skills beginning at 4 p.m. for children eighth grade and under. To reserve your spot, contact Lauren at promotions@lsu.edu by Friday, Aug. 23 and include how many children will be attending the event. Check-in for the Kids Clinic starts at 3 p.m.
LSU has earned 171 victories, an average of 21.4 wins per season, to go along with seven of the last eight SEC Western Division titles since 2005. The Tigers also are one of 34 programs to appear in six NCAA Tournaments during the previous eight-year stretch.
LSU will square off with Texas-San Antonio (Aug. 30 – 7 p.m.), UC Davis (Aug. 31 – 10 a.m.) and San Diego State (Aug. 31 – 7:30 p.m.) for the season-opening Tiger Classic at the Maravich Center. Admission is free courtesy of The Advocate’s “Geaux Free” program.
