BATON ROUGE – Head coach Dennis Shaver and his staff announced Friday that the Tigers and Lady Tigers are set to host their fourth LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet this fall as the event returns to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Thursday, Sept. 12, ahead of LSU’s football game against Kent State that weekend.

All current and former track and field athletes at LSU are invited to join in the celebration as a social is set for 6:30 p.m. CT with the dinner and banquet to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Now entering its fourth year, the LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet has evolved into a true celebration of the rich history and tradition of the NCAA’s most storied track and field program as the Tigers and Lady Tigers welcome their decorated alumni back to Baton Rouge for the banquet festivities.

And the fourth-annual event is no exception as it will feature a 25th anniversary celebration of the Lady Tigers’ 1988 NCAA Outdoor Championship team that defended its title from a season before.

The fourth-annual LSU Track & Field Team Awards and Alumni Recognition Banquet will also honor the current Tigers and Lady Tigers for their outstanding performances during the 2012 outdoor, 2012 cross country and 2013 indoor and outdoor seasons, highlighted by the announcement of the Most Outstanding Female Performer Award and Glenn “Slats” Hardin Award winners.

The banquet debuted in 2010 with the goal of honoring the current members of the LSU Track & Field program for their achievements in competition, in the classroom and in the community, as well as recognize alumni who have laid the foundation of success that is enjoyed by the program to this day as the Tigers and Lady Tigers prepare for the 2014 season.

The LSU Track & Field program is also excited to announce that a reunion of its men’s and women’s national championship teams from 1987, 1988 and 1989 will also be held that weekend following the team banquet. It includes a reunion of the women’s indoor and outdoor title teams in 1987 and 1989 and outdoor title team in 1988 along with the men’s outdoor championship squad from 1989.

Further information will be forthcoming as details of LSU’s national championship team reunion are still being finalized at this time.
