BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU junior right-hander Ryan Eades was selected in the second round Thursday night by the Minnesota Twins in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Eades was chosen by the Twins with the 43rd overall pick in the draft.
Eades, a native of Slidell, La., is 8-1 this season with a 2.81 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 96 innings. He is seventh in the SEC in wins, 10th in innings pitched and 12th in strikeouts.
Eades was selected in the 19th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies as a high school senior, but elected to enroll at LSU where he significantly improved his draft status over the past three seasons.
He is 17-5 in his three-year LSU career with a 3.59 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 233 innings.
The first round and second rounds and the compensatory picks of the 2013 draft were completed Thursday night. The draft continues at 11:30 a.m. CT Friday with Rounds 3-10 and concludes with Rounds 11-40 beginning at noon CT Saturday.
LSU signee Justin Williams, an infielder from Terrebonne High School in Houma, La., was selected in the second round Thursday by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 52nd overall pick.
