Notes on the Tigers
LSU opened SEC action with back-to-back road setbacks versus Alabama and South Carolina. It marked the first time since 2008 that the Tigers have started league play with a 0-2 mark. LSU received season’s best kill performances from Helen Boyle and Madie Jones in addition to career-high blocking efforts from Desiree Elliott and Khourtni Fears  during its five-set loss at South Carolina. The Tigers compiled a .256 to .240 hitting percentage edge and outblocked the Gamecocks by a 17-10 margin. The 17 blocks for LSU were a season-high. However, South Carolina was able to muster a 68-62 and 67-63 advantages in the kills and digs departments, respectively. Sam Delahoussaye posted double figure digs in both matches filling in for Meghan Mannari at the libero position. Jackie Gerig and Malorie Pardo combined to distribute 11.30 assists per set as Gerig made her first career start at South Carolina. After playing 11 straight road/neutral site matches to start the season, LSU makes its much-anticipated home debut Friday versus Kentucky. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. inside the Maravich Center. The Tigers will square off against Missouri with Sunday’s first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. Dating back to the 2005 season, LSU has racked up a 163-62 record and is one of 25 programs nationally to secure bids to six of the last seven NCAA Tournaments. The Tigers have collected seven consecutive SEC Western championships highlighted by the overall league championship in 2009. It’s the second longest streak in SEC history, only behind Florida’s 14-year run on top of the SEC’s Eastern Division from 1995-2008.
