Soccer to Meet Memphis in Final Pre-SEC Match

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Soccer team is set to wrap up its non-conference season on Monday evening as it welcomes the defending Conference USA champion Memphis Tigers to Baton Rouge for its regionally-televised broadcast on Cox Sports Television at 7 p.m. CT.

LSU (3-1-2) is riding a three-game unbeaten streak into Monday’s non-conference finale as this marks the fifth time in six seasons the Tigers have faced Memphis (2-2) on the soccer pitch.

LSU will make its third appearance on Cox Sports Television in as many weeks as CST is set to broadcast live coverage of Monday’s match before the team opens Southeastern Conference play next weekend. Louisiana residents can catch CST on Channel 37 on Cox Communications, Channel 1037 on Cox Digital Cable and Channel 421 on DISH Network. Check local listings for CST in your area.

Fans can also follow the action through LSU’s social media networks as live updates and coverage for the match is available by liking LSU Soccer on Facebook and following @LSUSoccer on Twitter. In addition to that, fans are invited to join the live in-game chat on the team’s official Facebook page.

Fans can “Geaux Free!” to Monday Night Futbol at the LSU Soccer Stadium as admission is free for each of the team’s eight remaining home matches during the regular season.

“Our fans are certainly in for a treat tomorrow as we welcome a strong Memphis team to Baton Rouge for what will be an exciting finish to our non-conference season,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “It will be a strong test for our team to see exactly where we stand as we head into SEC play. We’ll have world-class competition for our fans to enjoy, so we invite them to join us on campus tomorrow night.”

Following a 7-2 victory by LSU for its last victory in the series in 2007, Memphis has roared back to even the series at 3-3 with three-straight wins in the past three seasons. LSU suffered a 3-1 setback to Memphis in its 2011 season opener on the road at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex a year ago.

Memphis, which has captured the Conference USA Tournament title in each of the last five seasons, owns a strong club again this fall that will provide a strong test for the home side on Monday night.

The visitors are dangerous in the attack with a trio of FIFA Under-20 World Cup veterans setting the pace in Christabel Oduro, Kylie Davis and Natalia Gomez-Junco.

Oduro, a Canadian U-20 international, is the reigning Conference USA Player of the Year and an NSCAA Third-Team All-American after scoring 16 goals and 39 points as one of the nation’s elite strikers a season ago. She is finding her form after missing the start of the 2012 season with the Under-20 Canadian Women’s National Team at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan.

Davis and Gomez-Junco have rejoined a strong midfield unit for the Memphis Tigers following their duty in Japan as Davis joined Oduro with the Canadian squad and Gomez-Junco was an offensive star for team Mexico. Each was named to the 2011 CUSA All-Freshman Team a year ago.

Memphis nearly pulled off an upset of No. 3-ranked Oklahoma State a week ago with a 3-2 setback to the Cowgirls on Sept. 2 before scoring a 2-1 double overtime win at Vanderbilt on Thursday.

LSU is unbeaten in its last three outings with a 2-0 shutout of Houston on Sept. 2, a 2-1 win over Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday and a 0-0 draw with Florida International on Friday night.

Monday is “Kid’s Day” and “Mike’s Kids Club Day” at the LSU Soccer Stadium as the team will host an exciting mini kids clinic prior to the game with a pizza party for the kids following the clinic. Mike’s Kids Club members will have a chance to shoot and score against Mike the Tiger at halftime.

After battling the Memphis Tigers on Monday night, the LSU Tigers will open SEC play on Friday with a match against conference newcomers Texas A&M that is set to kick off at 7 p.m. CT in Baton Rouge. The No. 11-ranked Aggies kick off an SEC-opening weekend at the LSU Soccer Stadium that also features the clash with the Alabama Crimson Tide at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16.
