No. 6 Women’s Golf Travels to Tempe

BATON ROUGE – The sixth-ranked LSU women’s golf team plays its final regular season event of the 2012 season, traveling to Tempe, Ariz., for the Ping/ASU Invitational starting on Friday.

The Lady Tigers will play without No. 1 player Austin Ernst who is playing as one of the five amateur representatives in the Kraft Nabisco LPGA major tournament at Rancho Mirage, Calif.  That event began on Thursday and runs through Sunday.

Joining the Lady Tigers in the event are Arizona State, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, San Diego State, Sanford, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, UC Davis, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Vanderbilt and Washington.

The three-day, 54-hole event will be contested over the ASU Karsten Golf Course which will play to 6,099 yards and a par of 71.

LSU will go with a lineup of senior Tessa Teachman, freshman Madeline Sagstrom, senior Jacqueline Headwall, sophomore Lindsay Gahm and junior Katrina Hegge. Teachman is second on the team in stroke average, just behind Ernst, at 73.0 with four top 10 finishes, while Sagstrom has two top 10s and a 73.2 average.

The Lady Tigers will play with Vanderbilt and Oklahoma State and will go off the 10th hole at 10:40 a.m. CDT.

“We are looking forward to this event to get to play in a big of a different environment and continue to improve on things as we head toward the post-season,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “This is a great field and we hope to be able to close out this portion of our season with a good finish.”
