BATON ROUGE – The LSU volleyball team starts its spring campaign with a quartet of challenging matches against Florida and Florida State Saturday at Tully Gym on the FSU campus.

Each match for the Tigers will be the best two of three sets and will last no longer than an hour.  Tournament host Florida State advanced to the program’s first NCAA Final Four in 2001, while Florida secured the SEC championship en route to a NCAA Elite Eight appearance.

“We are very excited to get back on the court and compete again,” head coach Fran Flory said. “This team has worked extremely hard thus far during the spring. We are definitely still a work in progress, but each and every player has made significant strides forward.  Beginning our spring competition dates against Florida State and Florida will certainly help us prepare for the upcoming fall schedule where we will face one of the most challenging schedules in the country.”

LSU has strung together seven consecutive SEC Western Division titles highlighted by the overall league championship in 2009. It’s the second longest streak in SEC history, only behind Florida’s 14-year run on top of the SEC’s Eastern Division from 1995-2008. The Tigers have garnered a 159-55 record, secured six NCAA Tournament appearances and notched 24 All-SEC selections since 2005.
