BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Ashley Langoni and ULL’s Jordan Wallace picked up Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards Thursday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
A senior for the Tigers, Langoni continued her hot streak as LSU won five games and swept the Purple & Gold Challenge last week. She secured three multi-hit efforts en route to a .500 batting average, scored seven runs and drove home six RBIs. Langoni belted a home run during the first inning of LSU’s 10-2 victory over Nicholls State which allowed her to draw even with former All-American Stephanie Hill and Anissa Young for seventh place on the program’s all-time list.
A freshman pitcher for the Cajuns, Wallace finished the week 3-0 and became the first ULL pitcher to 10 wins on the season with her Sunday victory over North Texas. The Weatherford, Texas, native fired 19.1 innings, while going the distance in two of the three games and struck out 12 hitters.
It’s the third weekly award for Langoni and first for Wallace from the LSWA.
