BATON ROUGE – LSU men’s basketball coach Trent Johnson was named District 7 Coach of the Year Wednesday by the United States Basketball Writers Association.
The Association members picked all-district teams in nine districts throughout the country. District VII is composed of schools in Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas.
Johnson led the Tigers to their most wins (17 entering Thursday’s SEC Tournament) since 2009 and seven conference wins after winning a combined five the last two seasons.
LSU center Justin Hamilton was also named to the All-District 7 team. Hamilton led LSU in scoring with an average of 13.0 points per game.
Texas’ J’Covan Brown was named the Player of the Year in the District, while joining Brown and Hamilton on the All-District Team were Quincy Acy, Pierre Jackson and Perry Jones III of Baylor, Arsalan Kazemi of Rice, Tony Mitchell of North Texas, Robert Nyakundi of SMU, Lamarcus Reed of Texas-Arlington and B. J. Young of Arkansas.
