After Win, Presley Named SEC Golfer of the Week

BATON ROUGE – After leading the No. 16-ranked Tigers to their first tournament title of the season with his first collegiate win at the 2012 Louisiana Classics, LSU sophomore Andrew Presley was honored Wednesday as the Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf of the Week.

Presley fired back-to-back scores of 4-under 68 in the first and second rounds on Monday before finishing with a 2-under 70 in the final round on Tuesday to capture a three-shot win over senior teammate Sang Yi with a career-low 10-under 206 in the event held at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette.

That shattered his previous career-best 54-hole tournament score of 2-under par 214 set at the 2010 David Toms Intercollegiate held Oct. 18-19, 2010, at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.

Presley’s effort led the Tigers to their first team championship of the 2011-12 campaign as they claimed a 14-shot victory over SMU and Tulsa in the final team standings. The Tigers made history by firing their lowest 54-hole team score in nearly three decades with a final total of 17-under par 847 for their top score since at least 1985. That included a season-low score of 9-under 279 in the second round.

Presley is the first LSU Tiger to be named the SEC Men’s Golfer of the Week since former All-American Andrew Loupe was selected on April 11, 2011, after tying for first place on the leaderboard for the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate while leading the Tigers to the team title a year ago.
