BATON ROUGE – After opening its 2012 spring season with an eighth-place finish at the John Hayt Invitational earlier this week, the LSU men’s golf team has held its position among the nation’s Top 25 in the first release of the national rankings of the new semester.
The Tigers are up one spot into a tie for the No. 16 place in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Top 25 released Wednesday, while they are also ranked No. 25 nationally in the latest Golfstat Top 25.
Senior Sang Yi is off to a fast start to the spring season after tying for fourth place in the final leaderboard at the John Hayt Invitational with his 54-hole score of 2-under par 214 in the event held at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Yi earned his third top-five finish and fourth top-10 finish of the 2011-12 season while dropping his team-leading scoring average to 72.4 stroke per round this season.
The Tigers return to action next week with a short trip to Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La., for a spot in the field at this year’s Louisiana Classics hosted Monday and Tuesday by the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. They will then stay in-state for their next tourney appearance at the Argent Financial Classic being held March 11-13 at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La.
