BATON ROUGE – LSU gymnast Rheagan Courville received SEC Freshman of the Week honors after she captured the all-around title against No. 3 Alabama, the league office announced Tuesday.
It marks the second time this season Courville has earned the distinction as she was named SEC Freshman of the Week after her performance against Kentucky on Feb. 3.
Courville won her third all-around title of the season as she scored a 39.450 last week against the Crimson Tide, beating Alabama senior Geralen Stack-Eaton’s 39.400.
Courville posted second-place finishes on vault and floor with 9.90’s, giving her 12 scores of 9.90 or higher this season. Her 9.825 scores on bars and beam were the second-highest in each event for LSU against Alabama.
She becomes the first LSU gymnast since Gloria Johnson in 2009 to be named SEC Freshman of the Week twice in one season.
The Baton Rouge native leads the team with 13 individual titles this season after tallying her third all-around victory of the year.
No. 10 LSU faces 20th-ranked North Carolina State at 7 p.m. CT Friday in the Fifth Annual Etta James Memorial Meet in the Maravich Center.
