BATON ROUGE — After volunteering their time during the Christmas holiday and during the month of January, LSU head coach Nikki Caldwell and the Lady Tiger basketball team have been recognized by the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank as the “Organization of the Month.”
Caldwell, her staff and the players formed an assembly line and boxed over a month’s worth of food on two occasions at the food bank. The bagged lunches, as part of the food bank’s backpack program, went to underprivileged children in the Baton Rouge area.
The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank Board officially presented the award to the team this week and Caldwell says the Lady Tigers will definitely continue to volunteer their time at the food bank in the future.
“We have formed a great partnership with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank that our staff and team are proud of,” said Caldwell. “We want to do all that we can to help out in the community. We split the team up into two groups and we had stations set up where we competed to see who can bag the most lunches. It was a great team-building exercise and our goal is to always do something positive for the community and help those out who are less fortunate.”
The mission of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is to feed the hungry in Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes by providing food and educational outreach through faith-based and other community partners. For more information on how to get involved, visit www.brfoodbank.org.
