Soccer Puts Record 14 on SEC Honor Roll

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Soccer team established a new program record when 14 student-athletes were honored as members of the 2011 Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll for their effort in the classroom during the 2011 spring, summer and fall semesters.

With 14 SEC Academic Honor Roll selections this season, the Tigers shatter their previous team record of 11 selections that had been matched four previous times in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007.

Headlining the team’s 14 honor roll selections this season is senior All-SEC performer Allysha Chapman, who was recognized this fall as the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and a First-Team All-SEC pick by the league’s 12 head coaches for her efforts as one of the NCAA’s elite defensive midfielders.

Chapman earned three All-SEC honors in her three seasons with the Tigers from 2009-11, which includes a second-team selection as a sophomore in 2009 and a first-team selection as a junior in 2010.

Chapman graduated from LSU in December with her degree in biological sciences. Senior goalkeeper and fellow SEC Academic Honor Roll selection Mo Isom also received her degree in broadcast journalism.

The LSU Soccer program has proven itself as a campus leader both on and off the field as it also captured a fourth SEC Western Division championship in five seasons after wrapping up the 2011 campaign with a 13-8-1 overall record and 8-3 mark in SEC play. The Tigers also finished in second place in the final SEC table for the third time in four seasons en route to a fourth NCAA Tournament appearance.

“We’re certainly proud of each one of these young women for what they have achieved both on and off of the field as members of the LSU Soccer program,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “Their selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll isn’t just a testament to the commitment they’ve shown as student-athletes in the classroom, but also a testament to the tremendous support of our academic staff at LSU.

“We appreciate the work of Carole Walker and the rest of our academic staff in helping our athletes reach the goals they’ve set for themselves in their pursuit of a college degree.”
