BATON ROUGE – Former LSU women’s basketball point guard and WNBA champion Temeka Johnson visited children over the holidays at a local Baton Rouge hospital.

Johnson visited with patients and their family members. The WNBA Phoenix Mercury point guard brought her children’s book “Meek Moments: Decisions, Decisions, Decisions” which depicts her life growing up and some of the decisions and consequences that she faced.

Meeks Moments is a series of children’s books that follow her journey from a little girl wanting to play in the NBA to becoming a WNBA Champion. She gave each patient a signed book, an autographed picture and a wristband from her MeeksHOPE.org Foundation.

“I love more than anything putting a smile on others face,” Johnson said. “Visiting the hospital to spread some H.O.P.E. was the best thing I could have done. So happy that Our Lady of the Lake welcomed me in sharing and spreading some joy during this holiday season.”

Johnson’s MeeksHOPE.org Foundation was started in memory of her late grandmother, Jewel Johnson. A lifelong educator who died of cancer in 2008, Jewell inspired Temeka’s work with schools. The goal of MeeksHope.org Foundation is inspiring youth, families and communities to set high aspirations, reach for their dreams and lead more emotionally healthy lifestyles.

Johnson, the 2005 Lieberman Award winner as the nation’s top collegiate point guard, finished her career at LSU as the Southeastern Conference’s all-time leader in assists with 945. She is the only player in school history to collect at least 1,000 points, 500 assists and 500 rebounds.

The 2005 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Johnson claimed a WNBA championship with the Phoenix Mercury in 2009. In her seven WNBA seasons, she has amassed 1,569 points, 888 assists and 561 rebounds.
