BATON ROUGE – With the BCS National Championship Game exactly three weeks away, LSU’s bowl practice continued on Monday as the top-ranked Tigers held a two hour workout here at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
The Tigers will practice on Tuesday and Wednesday before taking a four-day Christmas break.
LSU faces second-ranked Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game on Monday, Jan. 9 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. The game will be televised on ESPN with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
“The speed of practice is getting better,” LSU coach Les Miles said following Monday’s workout. “A lot of what we are doing right now is LSU versus LSU. We’re working on our opponent in certain situations, but we are spending the majority of our team going LSU against LSU.”
Miles said the Tigers will return to campus following the break on Dec. 26 at which time the remainder of the game plan will be installed before departing for New Orleans on Jan. 4. Once the Tigers return to campus, they will have 10 practices remaining before game day.
With over a month between the SEC Championship Game and the national title contest, Miles said the Tigers are making sure that they in game shape by going through live snaps in practice each day.
“Today, we did some live reps versus each other,” Miles said. “We are tackling in every practice. I think we are coming along just fine. We have two more practices before taking a break but I really have liked the effort and the enthusiasm in the brief practices that we have had since final exams.”
LSU will practice again at 4 p.m. on Tuesday before holding a 9 a.m. workout on Wednesday.
