SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Lady Tiger junior Kimberlyn Duncan was among the finalists in attendance on Wednesday night for The Bowerman ceremony held at the JW Marriott Resort as part of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Convention for 2011.

Joining Duncan among the three women’s finalists were Texas A&M sprinter Jessica Beard and Arkansas pole vaulter Tina Sutej. The men’s finalists for The Bowerman included Washington State hurdler Jeshua Anderson, Florida State star Ngoni Makusha and Florida jumper Christian Taylor.

Beard and Makusha were announced as the winners of The Bowerman honoring the nation’s elite athletes at the collegiate level for the previous collegiate season.

Now in its third year, The Bowerman is collegiate track and field’s equivalent to the Heisman Trophy and is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the nation’s premier male and female athlete at the collegiate level each season. This year’s finalists were announced by the USTFCCCA on July 14.

“I’m very honored to be here. It’s an honor to be recognized with other athletes who have done some very amazing things in the sport of track and field. It’s an honor just to be a finalist for The Bowerman award,” Duncan said. “This was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed my time here in San Antonio, and I would love to be back here next year. My family and I have had a great time here at this wonderful event.

“I think for me to be back here next year, I have to work much harder than I did last year and stay focused and stay confident in myself. If I do that, maybe I’ll be invited back here again next year.”
