LEXINGTON, Ky. – LSU libero Meghan Mannari picked up American Volleyball Coaches Association [AVCA] All-South Region Honorable Mention accolades Tuesday as announced by the governing body of collegiate volleyball coaches.
The Tigers have totaled 12 AVCA All-South Region honorees dating back to the 2005 season.
“We’re extremely proud of the steps that Meghan took during her junior season moving into the libero role,” head coach Fran Flory said. “She played a major role leading our defense. This type of an award is certainly a springboard for her heading into the offseason.”
Mannari, an All-SEC Second-Team performer, finished with a team-leading 518 digs at a 4.67 per set average to rank second in the SEC. The 518 digs also were the third-highest total for a single season in program history. During conference play, the three-time SEC Defensive Player of the Week improved her mark to a league-best 4.88 per set clip.
Mannari notched double figure digs in 27 of 29 appearances and eclipsed the 20-scoop plateau on nine occasions. She produced a career-high 39 digs against South Carolina, the most by a SEC player during the 2011 season. The Frisco, Texas, native also slapped a team-high 38 aces and her 0.34 per set average was fourth-best in the SEC.
LSU has strung together seven consecutive SEC Western Division titles highlighted by the overall league championship in 2009. It’s the second longest streak in SEC history only behind Florida’s 14-year run on top of the SEC’s Eastern Division from 1995-2008.
The Tigers have garnered a 159-55 record, secured six NCAA Tournament appearances and notched 24 All-SEC selections since 2005.
