BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU defensive specialist Lauren Waclawczyk earned SEC Community Service Team accolades for her dedication and leadership off-the-court Tuesday as announced by the league office. It marked the first time that Waclawczyk has picked up this award.

Waclawczyk’s service involvement has included creating and championing the “Geaux Books” program.

Throughout the season, the Tigers collected close to 3,000 books during their home matches to replenish the library at Dufrocq Elementary School.

“Lauren’s tireless work ethic and giving heart has embodied the true spirit of our program,” head coach Fran Flory said. “She always finds a way to make a difference and touch those she comes in contact with. I can’t say enough about the difference she had made on our community through the ‘Geaux Books’ program. There’s no doubt in my mind that Lauren will go forward and be successful in whatever she decides to do after graduation.”

Waclawczyk also assisted with the SEC Together WE CAN Food Drive where she collected cans and monetary donations for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank during a home soccer match.

During Halloween BOOzar, Waclawczyk helped provide a safe night of Halloween fun to local children by playing volleyball games, signing autographs and handing out candy.

At LSU’s Greening Day, Waclawczyk helped beautify the campus by planting flowers, raking and mulching areas. She also volunteered with Kid’s Hope USA and mentored a child at Wildwood Elementary School by meeting with the student throughout the semester, working on school work and playing educational games.

Waclawczyk corralled 1,257 career digs to finish in eighth place on LSU’s all-time list. The Tigers have garnered seven straight SEC Western Division championships highlighted by the league’s overall crown in 2009.
