BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU junior libero Meghan Mannari claimed SEC Defensive Player of the Week accolades Monday as announced by the league office. For Mannari, it’s her third career weekly honor from the SEC.
“Meghan continues to amaze with her remarkable play on the back row and was a key contributor to our comeback victory over South Carolina,” head coach Fran Flory said. “Certainly, she is one of the best players at her position in the SEC. We’ll need her to continue to play at her high level to be successful in two very tough road matches against Top 20 opponents this weekend.”
Mannari registered a career-best 39 digs Sunday versus the Gamecocks. The 39 scoops were a season-high for a SEC player this season in addition to being the second-most for a single-match in LSU program history. The outstanding performance was highlighted by a pair of 11-dig efforts during the second and third sets.
Mannari also corralled 20 digs Friday against No. 19 Florida, who entered the match as the nation’s team hitting percentage leader. The Frisco, Texas, native has amassed nine 20-plus dig efforts this season.
LSU heads into its toughest road swing of the season. The Tigers meet No. 16 Kentucky on Friday followed by a Sunday tilt with No. 14 Tennessee.
