BATON ROUGE – Tiger fans are reminded that just two days remain in the online voting for LSU Soccer goalkeeper Mo Isom as the winner of the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award for women’s soccer as she has slipped into second place in the fan vote that runs through Tuesday.
Votes can be cast daily at the official website for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award for women’s soccer at www.seniorclassaward.com and its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/lowesseniorclassaward.
A native of Marietta, Ga., Isom has received 26.1 percent of the vote as she now follows Central Florida’s Aline Reis by a narrow margin of just 0.2 percent in the total fan vote as of Monday afternoon. Memphis’ Lizzy Simonin follows in third place with 19.1 percent of the total fan vote, while none of the other seven finalists included have received more than 5 percent of the online vote with just two days remaining.
For a student-athlete to receive consideration for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, she is to be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence, including community, classroom character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete experience, and encourages these students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their respective communities.
The 10 finalists for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award for women’s soccer were selected by a media committee on Oct. 5 from the list of 30 candidates announced back in August.
The winner of the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award will be announced in December during the NCAA Women’s College Cup being held Dec. 2-4 in Kennesaw, Ga.
Isom and her Tiger teammates recently wrapped up their 2011 campaign with an at-large berth in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament while posting a 13-8-1 overall record for the season. The Tigers also posted an 8-3 mark in Southeastern Conference play to earn a runner-up finish for the SEC regular season championship for the third time in four seasons and capture their fourth SEC West title in the last five seasons.
