Basketball to ‘Wear Purple’ for Saturday’s Opener

BATON ROUGE – The LSU men’s basketball team will join the color scheme for the homecoming day on the LSU campus as they will also wear their purple jerseys for their opening game on Saturday at noon against Nicholls State University at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Admission for the game is free of charge as part of the second-ever men’s basketball-football doubleheader on North Stadium Drive with basketball at the Maravich Center at noon and a 6 p.m. homecoming kickoff at Tiger Stadium between LSU and Western Kentucky.

Season ticket holders received a free ticket for their normal seats that they can use for the Nicholls game.

LSU normally wears white and has rarely worn gold for special occasions in recent years at home, but this will be the first time the Tigers have worn purple at home since back in the years of Coach Dale Brown. It’s all part of a homecoming theme of “wear purple” for the fans as they come to the campus on Saturday as the No. 1-ranked LSU football team will also don their purple jerseys for their first game home since last Saturday’s win at No. 2 Alabama, 9-6, in overtime.

LSU fans coming to the basketball game will have free shuttle service available from the Hayfield and Levee lot off River Road beginning at 10 a.m. Return service will be available for an hour after the game with the pickup point on the practice facility side of the Maravich Center.

The game is the first of 15 basketball home games for LSU. Season tickets are still on sale for the 2011-12 season as well as the Pick 3 (all home games except the Jan. 28 Kentucky game for $39) and the Pick 5 (all games to choose from for $75) mini-plans. Single game tickets for the remainder of the non-conference home games will go on sale Monday, Nov. 14.
