Madie Jones, OH, Jr., Plano, Texas
Jones blasted a team-best 37 at a 4.11 kills per set clip, a full 0.62 spikes above her season average, as LSU emerged with a pair of hard-fought road victories against Auburn and Georgia to retake sole possession of first place in the SEC Western Division race. She matched a career-high 21 kills on a .275 hitting percentage versus Georgia. The Plano, Texas, native hammered home five critical spikes during the deciding frame where the Tigers erased six match points. Jones’ powerful right arm was solely responsible for washing away three of the last four with the score at 14-12, 14-13 and 16-15. In LSU’s 3-1 victory over Auburn, Jones garnered a magnificent all-around performance with 16 kills, matched a career-best seven digs and added four blocks. Down 26-25 in the first set, Jones put the Tigers on her back and reeled off three straight kills to vault LSU to a 28-26 win.

Nominee for Defensive Player of the Week
Michele Williams, MB, Sr., Magnolia, Texas
Williams was a force on LSU’s front row in all facets of the game especially on the defensive side. She averaged 1.56 blocks per set, 0.60 stuffs higher than her season average. The Tigers posted a season-high 15 blocks, seven involving Williams, versus Auburn. The Magnolia, Texas, native also notched seven blocks sparked by a trio of solo stuffs at Georgia. LSU recorded 13 blocks to match its second-highest output of the season and wiped away six Bulldog match points. Williams played a pivotal role with a block and two kills. In the process, she passed Lauren DeGirolamo for sole possession of 17th place on the program’s all-time kills list.

Helen Boyle, OH, Fr., Eureka, Mo.
Boyle turned in a pair of memorable double-doubles as LSU jumped back into the SEC Western Division lead. She racked up 3.22 kills per set, a full 1.21 spike per frame above her season average on a scorching .377 hitting percentage. She also chipped in 3.02 digs and 0.38 blocks per set. Boyle ripped a career-high 18 kills on a crisp .405 clip and added 18 digs versus Auburn. With the match tied at 1-1, Boyle heated up for eight spikes to lift LSU to a critical 27-25 set three victory. Her previous career-best was 16 against Miami during the opening weekend of the season. The Eureka, Mo., product also was a perfect 26-for-26 in her passing attempts. Boyle tacked on 11 kills and 10 digs during LSU’s thrilling 3-2 victory at Georgia where the Tigers erased six match points during the fifth set. She saved her best for the deciding frame and ripped three kills on four swings, including the match-clincher on an out-of-system play to beat UGA’s double block attempt.

Notes on the Tigers
The LSU volleyball team grinded out hard-fought victories against Auburn and Georgia to finish off its four-match road swing with three consecutive victories. In the process, the Tigers regained sole possession of first place and now hold a one-match advantage over Arkansas in the SEC Western Division standings with five matches left to play in the regular season. Malorie Pardo fueled LSU’s offense to 12.67 assists per set and set a quartet of hitters to over 3.00 kills per set. She tied a career-high with 60 assists and recorded 10 digs to claim her team-leading 10th double-double of the season during LSU’s astounding 3-2 comeback victory over Georgia. The Tigers expunged six match points, three of them on Madie Jones kills and three of them on two Michele Williams spikes and a block involving Williams to turn a 14-10 deficit into an 18-16 triumph. Jones matched a career-best with 21 kills versus the Bulldogs after turning a balanced 18-kill, seven-dig and four-block performance during LSU’s 3-1 triumph against Auburn. All four sets versus Auburn were decided by the minimum two points. In the middle, Williams teamed with Desiree Elliott for 30 kills each and combined for 27 blocks on the weekend. LSU racked up a season-high 15 rejections, and Elliott matched a career-best with eight stuffs at Auburn. Helen Boyle compiled back-to-back double dips en route to an impressive .377 hitting percentage. Boyle powered a career-best 18 kills to go along with 18 digs against Auburn. Her previous career-best was 16 versus Miami all the way back on opening weekend. On the back row, Meghan Mannari contributed 4.00 digs per set. She collected 24 scoops versus Georgia. LSU returns to the friendly confines of the Maravich Center to meet No. 17 Florida [Friday at 7 p.m.] and South Carolina [Sunday at 1:30 p.m.]. The Tigers have collected a 157-52 record and claimed six consecutive SEC Western Division titles since 2005. LSU also has tallied the nation’s 14th-best winning percentage and is one of 18 programs nationally to secure six straight NCAA Tournament appearances going back to 2005.
