Notes on the Tigers
The LSU volleyball team split its road matches with Arkansas and Mississippi State last week. The Tigers erased a two-set deficit and a match-point to turn the tables on the Bulldogs. In the process, Michele Williams became the 18th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career kills. She is the fifth player to accomplish the feat since 2007, and the first playing all of her matches in the current 25-point format. Williams cranked 14 of her 16 spikes and registered a crisp .357 hitting percentage during the final four sets of the match. Desiree Elliott and Madie Jones contributed solid efforts to the comeback cause. Jones pounded 12 of her team-best 18 spikes, while Elliott chipped in eight of her 12 kills over the final three sets. The reigning two-time SEC Freshman of the Week, Malorie Pardo, handed out 55 assists and tacked on 10 digs versus Mississippi State to secure her team-leading ninth double-double. The League City, Texas, native has distributed a SEC-best 11.72 assists per set on the season. Defensively, Meghan Mannari hauled in 3.62 digs per set, while Helen Boyle secured back-to-back 10 or more scoops in consecutive outings. Boyle has reached that feat in 10 of 13 SEC matches. With seven matches remaining in the regular season, LSU is in a first-place tie with Arkansas in the SEC Western Division race. The Tigers wrap up their four-match road swing against Auburn [Friday at 7 p.m.] and Georgia [Sunday at 12:30 p.m. CT]. LSU has collected a 155-52 record and claimed six consecutive SEC Western Division titles since 2005. The Tigers also have tallied the nation’s 14th-best winning percentage and is one of 18 programs nationally to secure six straight NCAA Tournament appearances going back to 2005.
